Why Learn About Investing?
Investing right can make the difference between reaching your retirement goals or falling short. Unfortunately, studies show most retirement investors lose out. Find out why and what to do about it.

A research firm called DALBAR found that do-it-yourself investors tend to buy and sell at the wrong times, dramatically reducing their returns.
The Dalbar study found that on average, do-it-yourself investors:
- Only made about 4% per year while the market returned 11% per year
- Usually didn’t hold market gains over the long run
- Still participated in market losses
When it comes to investment decisions, our emotions naturally make us lousy investors.
- When markets fall, we naturally tend to panic and sell at the worst possible times.
- When markets rise, we naturally feel more confident and buy more, when stocks are most expensive.
As a result, most do-it-yourself investors have difficulty achieving their retirement goals.
Fortunately it’s not that hard to avoid losing out on these earnings. Most of it is about behavior, not about spending hours studying. Or, if you’re busy enough and would rather have professionals help you plan and manage your nest egg, that’s usually a smart choice.
